An Evening of Inspiration & Impact
On Monday, June 23, 2025, friends and faculty of the W.K. Kellogg Eye Center gathered for a special event at the Dixboro Project in Ann Arbor. Hosted by Shahzad I. Mian, M.D., F. Bruce Fralick Professor of Ophthalmology, Chair and Professor, Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, and Director of the Kellogg Eye Center, the evening had two purposes. This special event celebrated the launch of the next philanthropic campaign, Look to Michigan, and reflected on the incredible impact donors to the Kellogg Eye Center have had over the years. From research to patient care to education to facilities and more, Dr. Mian emphasized how dedicated donors have advanced our efforts in life-changing ways. Special guests included Paul R. Lichter, M.D., Professor Emeritus, and former Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, who provided an overview of some of Kellogg’s greatest accomplishments over the years and the inspiration behind the gift to establish the Wadhams Family Center for Children’s Vision. Angela Elam, M.D., assistant professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, discussed the importance of providing quality vision care in local communities while honoring Paul P. Lee, M.D., J.D., Executive Director of the University of Michigan Medical Group, Senior Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs, and Professor and former Chair of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. S. Robert Levine, M.D., widower of Mary Tyler Moore, spoke eloquently about vital research into the serious ophthalmological complications of diabetes. Following Dr. Levine, Jaqueline Stoutin, M.D., fourth year resident and administrative chief, spoke passionately about investing in the future by supporting education and spaces that inspire. While U-M and Michigan Medicine kicked off their Look to Michigan campaigns in the fall of 2024, the Kellogg Eye Center chose to host a more intimate gath-ering with its most important partners. Collaboration with the outstanding team at Kellogg Eye Center and dedicated donors has enabled tremendous progress in vision care and research, always with an eye to the future. Building on this strong foundation of success, the center has every reason to be excited about what lies ahead.
